Good news and bad news for overseas volunteering
Under the Federal Budget released on 12 May, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has been allocated an estimated total budget of $39.6 million for the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program in 2015/2016.
This is good news because it is a significant contribution from the government to its program partners; Scope Global, Australian Volunteers International and the Australian Red Cross. However, this is also bad news because is a reduction from funding in 2014/2015.
This will certainly have an impact on new volunteers assignments as The Australian Red Cross mentions in their website.
