The businesses with the most continuous and highest commitment to their Reconciliation Action Plans

The GoodBiz Network carried out an analysis of organisations in the corporate sector participating in the Reconciliation Action Plan program. In this article we list the corporates that we consider have the highest and most continuous commitment to their RAPs based on the following criteria:

-Corporates that started publishing their RAPs in 2010 or earlier, and that have been regularly publishing their plans and/or reports up to August 2015 as found in the “Who has a RAP Corporate” page.

-Organisations that have an Elevate RAP, here highlighted with an asterisk (*)

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a program developed by Reconciliation Australia in which organisations develop “RAPs”, business plans that document practical actions that they will undertake within their sphere of influence to contribute to reconciliation in Australia. RAPs outline actions, responsibilities, timelines and deliverables in 3 key aspects: relationships, respect and opportunities.

Elevate RAPs, is a classification seen as the maximum standard of RAP report benchmarking. As stated by Reconciliation Australia, “these partners are committed to leadership in their space and have taken their reconciliation obligations to the highest level across their respective organisations”. They have accumulated knowledge and experience that can assist Reconciliation Australia and other organisations to further the objectives of reconciliation. They also show their proven results through and assurance assessments by an independent organisation, or through studies on the impact and outcomes of their RAP.

According to Reconciliation Australia’s latest information, there are more than 600 organisations with RAPs including large and small companies, government agencies, non-profits and universities, amongst others.

As for corporates, the Business Council of Australia (BCA) has acknowledged in its Indigenous Engagement Survey Report, that the “RAPs give businesses an action and accountability template, a strategy formula, and a community of practice.”
